PTFE LINED HOSE

PTFE Hose

PTFE Hose Introduction

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is an engineered plastic resin in the fluorocarbon group. This high molecular weight resin displays outstanding resistance to a remarkably wide variety of chemicals. The only known classes of chemicals that attack PTFE are the molten alkali metals such as sodium and potassium, and halogenated chemicals like fluorine gas or chlorine trifluoride. Other halogens and related compounds such as freon are known to effuse at a given rate.

The chemical compatibility of PTFE, combined with its other physical characteristics, make it the ideal engineered plastic for use in hose applications.

Flexible and Strong

Combined with metal braid, PTFE hose can perform under high pressure and continuous flexing and vibration conditions. Braided PTFE hose can withstand hundreds of thousands of cycles without failure or fatigue.

Chemically Resistant and Inert

PTFE hose can handle an almost endless variety of fluids at extremes of pressure and temperature. It is the most universal hose known.

Wide Ranging Temperature

Hoses made of PTFE can typically withstand temperatures from -100ºF to +500ºF under most operating conditions. Even 350ºF steam/cold water cycling is no match for PTFE.

Non-Stick, Low Friction

Almost no substances can adhere to PTFE. This property insures the purity of any fluid when transferred in a PTFE hose. It also allows for repeated reuse or alternate use with different fluids. With a coefficient of friction as low as 0.05, deposits cannot build up and flow rates are high throughout the hose life.

Resistant to Moisture

By its nature, PTFE lacks the affinity to moisture. Absorption is less than 0.01%. In addition, no odor, taste or color is added to the transfer fluid by PTFE, making it an FDA approved material for food contact.

Ageless

Weather, exposure, time....none of these affect the properties of PTFE. PTFE hose has limitless shelf life, it does not age.

Convoluted Hose of PTFE

The unique construction of tape wrapped convoluted hose combines the properties of PTFE with lighter weight greater flexibility than any hose of comparable size. As with medium pressure smooth bore, tape wrapped convoluted is manufactured with both conductive and non-conductive innercore depending on the demands of the application. Some applications require a conductive inner liner to dissipate static electrical charges. High resistivity fluids or gases at high velocity cause positive electrical charges to build on the inside of the PTFE liner. If not dissipated to the end of the hose, the charge will build until it arcs through the tube wall to the braid, causing catastrophic hose failure. To alleviate this, Teleflex manufactures a PTFE innercore with a thin conductive liner on the ID.

Other braid materials such as polyester, polypropylene, nylon and kynar are available for special applications. For information on other hose products or specific application performance data such as vacuum ratings, minimum assembly lengths and installation configurations, please call the Tampa Rubber & Gasket Customer Service Department.

Smooth Bore Hose of PTFE

Smooth Bore PTFE Hose

Smooth bore hose of PTFE has been the universal problem solver of industry for many decades. Through a process known as cold head extrusion, tetrafluoroethylene powder is transformed into a smooth tube of PTFE. Utilizing only the finest Dupont T62, Teleflex processes tons of powder into the best quality PTFE tubing in the industry. State-of-the-art quality control methods, meticulous attention to every foot of hose and proprietary processes unique to the industry make Teleflex Fluid Systems PTFE hose products the very best in the world.

The standard of industry is T1167. It has been widely specified for an endless variety of applications including automotive, food processing, pharmaceutical, chemical and petrochemical. It can be found in factories, on trucks and buses, automobiles on and off the road, in laboratories, in endless manufacturing situations; anywhere that the limitations of rubber, metal and synthetic hoses make PTFE hose the only solution.
